Perhaps you work as an experienced Webflow developer, or maybe you just started your journey - but if you found this article, it shows you want to learn how to earn more money with Webflow.

You could already make good money but want to get to that next level - or maybe you are a brand new Webflow developer looking to land your first client - regardless, this article will give you a clearer understanding of how YOU can further your career with Webflow.

Method #1: Find Your Niche

This word is everywhere in the technical sphere online, and some might even think it a bit cliche.  I can confidently tell you that this concept is one of the best ways you can increase your income as a Webflow developer.  Regardless of what you think about the word, the concept itself is a goldmine.

Niching is nothing complicated. If you are JUST a Webflow developer, your competition is intense - there are thousands upon thousands of people on earth who already do exactly what you do. So, being ‘just a Webflow developer’ means you will be a small fish in a big pond.

The solution? Niche yourself! Now, this does not mean you have to ONLY do one thing - but, if you find an aspect of Webflow which you particularly enjoy or are good at, focusing your brand image on that is going to put more eyes on you.  Instead of branding yourself as a “Webflow Developer’, think about the added cachet that comes from being a ‘Webflow SEO Expert’.

Consider it from a client’s perspective - if the primary goal for their website is to drive organic traffic, they are bound to pick the candidate whose focus is not only Webflow, but Webflow SEO.  Not only will you be more likely to get the job, but you can also make significantly more money from it as well.

Some ideas for niches in Webflow;

  1. SEO (like Search Historian)
  2. Animations (like Shadow Digital)
  3. Web apps  (like Black Peak)
  4. Accessibility & Compliance (like Belt Creative)
  5. CRO (Conversion Rate Optimization) (like Flow Ninja)

The list of specializations available are endless - but, people are already making big money with these popular options.  So you could either try and break into the group, or go out and forge your own path!

Method #2: Building your brand

Platforms like Upwork are excellent - even with no prior connections, you can get connected with paying clients. That being said, Upwork and similar platforms do not come without downsides.

Perhaps the biggest downside of Upwork is the competition - when you are one of 100 applicants, it can be difficult to set yourself apart.  Unfortunately, the way many people do this is by lowering their price, in a trend commonly referred to as ‘a race to the bottom’.

While these platforms provide great opportunities, there is something to be said about getting clients on your own. When people know who YOU are, what you excel at, and how you do it better than anyone else, you have essentially escaped that ‘race to the bottom’.  You can now set your own price, and as long as your work is worth it, clients will happily pay.

Building connections and your brand is perhaps the easiest way to go from a beginners wage, all the way to making over $100 an hour.  Share your expertise with the world.  Make videos, write articles and blogs.  If you do, and people regularly see you and value your insights, you increase the amount clients might be willing to pay for your experience AND increase the likelihood of them coming straight to you when they have a job.  While this isn’t a quick win and it takes lots of time and effort, you will quickly see why I am promoting this.

Method #3: Learning more skills

While it may seem obvious, this is perhaps the most overlooked thing when it comes to earning more as a Webflow developer.

You have to understand - all of your clients need more than just development. Just in one web project, there is usually a need to;

  1. Plan the website
  2. Design the website
  3. Build the website (OK, you got this one covered)
  4. Optimize the website for SEO
  5. Integrate marketing automation tools (very commonly through tools like Make & Zapier)
  6. Implement analytics and conversion tracking
  7. Drive traffic via paid & organic marketing
  8. Analyze data and make website improvements over time

Here is the thing - ALL of these steps cost money. If you are not doing them for your clients, chances are, they are paying someone else to do it.  Money they could be paying you.

Generally, clients do not like to hire and work with a whole squad of freelancers, and instead, they crave the simplicity offered by working with one person - so, if you are able to do all of these things, there is an extremely high chance they will choose you.

Now, instead of a $3,000 development project, you have a full $10,000 web & marketing project.

Conclusion

While it’s not easy to make more as a Webflow developer (or in any other line of work), if you direct your energy to the right places, you can be looking back at this article one year from now with an income much, much higher than you might have hoped.  However, it comes after some hard work.  You need to specialize, build a recognizable and memorable brand and position yourself as a multi-tasker capable of wearing numerous hats in the design and development process.  Become the one stop shop that can handle the process from start to finish and your clients will never need to go anywhere else again.

Always be wary of people telling you about quick wins that yield high results - slow and steady wins the race, every time.
