What is DesignJoy?

DesignJoy is what's called a productised design service. It's a subscription service with a fixed price, and fixed expectations.

Companies of all sizes can buy packaged up plans, and have a reliable source of design.

Why do you use Memberstack?

When building DesignJoy, the real problem I had was figuring out how to collect recurring payments. Memberstack takes care of that for me.

I'm not a developer. It took me a few minutes to set up on the site and I never really had to look back. Five years and lots of revenue later, it's worked perfectly for me.

What would you have done without Memberstack?

Many tools might have done the job, but they weren’t as customisable and would've probably broken the experience. If I went the custom code route, I would've probably been hiring a developer. That would've cost me a lot more money and I wouldn’t be able to change plans, pricing, or member management as easily as I can with Memberstack

What do you like most about Memberstack?

The support is awesome. Anytime I've had any sort of questions over the years, even from day one, the team has been incredible in terms of support.

The second most important thing was that, as a designer, I have a pretty high standard for design. Memberstack allows you to freely design in Webflow and connect things up.

What tools do you use?

Webflow for my website, Memberstack handles the recurring part, and the member management part of my business. It takes a huge weight off my shoulders. That's connected to Stripe, which is a super reliable, obviously payment source.

I don't use a ton of tools. I use Trello primarily to manage my requests that come in through my clients and occasionally I use air table for just internal request management. Other than that, I mean, it's the design tools, you know, Figma, obviously being the main one, and that's pretty much it.

What advice would you give your younger self? Would you have done anything differently, knowing what you know now?

I'd probably not do too much differently, but potentially go after a more specific niche. I am in the broad SAAS technology space, which I feel like is harder to get into. Nowadays most people emerging into the market are going after a specific niche. I think it's just easier to do that.

So if I had to start all over and I didn't have an audience, or I didn't have a means of getting into the market quickly, it'd probably be that.
