About This Case Study

In 2024 I officially released my Webflow and Freelance / Business course on my Webflow site (using Memberstack) in order to educate beginners on how to master Webflow in a structured and proven way.

Introduction:

G'day mate, I'm Derek Siu, a Freelance UI/UX Designer & Webflow Developer based in Sydney, Australia. With 7+ years of industry experience, I help design, build, teach and maintain Webflow websites that grow with your business.

In 2024 I officially released my Webflow and Freelance / Business course on my Webflow site (using Memberstack) in order to educate beginners on how to master Webflow in a structured and proven way.

What Problem Did Memberstack Solve For You:

I contemplated and even invested time (via various free trials) of typical "Learning" platforms such as Teachable, Skool, Kajabi, Thinkrific, etc.

However they all seemed to be using the same cookie cutter template - absolutely nothing against that, but since I'm offering Webflow (with a key focus on design) it made more sense to build my course platform bspoke and the only way I could do that was by using Memberstack.

What Are Your Favorite Things About Memberstack:

The awesome community and super friendly team members. When I reaching out to the team I didn't expect an answer to be honest. But in the end I was greeted with kindness and the warmth of the mean.

Obviously the functionalities it allows for my Webflow site ie. Gated Dashboard that can be customised and the ability to handle recurring membership billing.

How I Built It:

Step 1: Creating my website in Webflow, this comes with designing the pages then coding it and applying animations, making it responsive etc.

In the background also starting to build a waitlist via announcements on my Youtube channel as well as a waitlist form on my website.

Step 2: Creating the course, which takes a lot of time. That is writing the course, filming the course, editing the course, then coming up with marketing and pricing, etc.

Step 3: Building the backend functionality on my existing Webflow site using Memberstack. Which is primarily a custom dashboard with conditional logic to show and hide content based on user's payment plans.

Also integrating Mailchimp to send out EDM's eg. Welcome emails, etc. PLUS embedding videos using Wistia

Step 4: Constant refinement - since Memberstack x Webflow is completely custom I can continue to make changes and improvement as well as implement student feedback.
